MILA – your participatory supermarket in Vienna!

We are more than just a supermarket – we are a community that values good food, affordable prices and sustainable cooperation. It’s so easy to become a member: Fill in the membership form, send it off and go shopping.

MILA briefly explained

Together we are creating a sustainable, fair and cooperative supermarket. MILA does business differently to large supermarkets. We determine our product range together. MILA offers affordable food – organic, regional, seasonal and preferably unpackaged, as well as affordable conventional and international products.

We currently run a – no longer so small – mini-market at Vivenotgasse 29, 1120 Vienna. This year will see the opening of the large MILA join-in supermarket with a full range of products and loooong opening hours. Yay!

Your benefits as a MILA member

We are more than just a supermarket – we are a community that values good food, favourable prices and sustainable cooperation. As a co-operative member, you become a co-owner of MILA. From just 20 euros social share or 180 euros regular share (per member and term) you are part of it.

  • Really great food
  • Affordable & transparent prices
  • You help decide what goes on the shelf
  • Help shape your supermarket
  • Strong cooperation

Stronger together – for you and me.

Becoming a MILA member explained in 3 steps – it’s that simple:

Your first step to good food & real co-determination! Simply fill out our online membership form – and you’re already part of MILA!

1. become a member:

Fill in the application form online and become a member – you can join for as little as 20 euros social contribution or 180 euros regular contribution (per member and term). You should know this:

  • Simply fill in the membership form. If you have any questions, please contact mitmachen@mila.wien or call: 0670 2026368
  • You only pay your co-operative share once in your life and get it back when you leave.
  • The contribution is staggered so that everyone can join. You decide for yourself whether you choose the standard share (€180) or the social share (€20) – or give more voluntarily.

2. join in: 3 hours that really make a difference.

Just 3 hours a month – and you’re in the thick of it instead of just being there. Whether at the checkout, stocking shelves or sorting fruit: Your contribution keeps MILA running – and ensures that together we can offer good food at affordable prices. And: it’s surprisingly fun to work together!

3. shopping in your supermarket:

As a member, you can shop at MILA: fresh, regional and affordable food, carefully selected and organised together. Our mini-market is already open – drop by and discover how good solidarity shopping tastes!

Why is MILA a co-operative? How does the MILA cooperative work?

Anyone who supports the MILA concept and recognises the rights and obligations can become a member of the cooperative. With your one-off co-operative share, you become a co-owner of our MILA participatory supermarket.

How are votes organised?

Every vote counts the same and every member has exactly one vote, no matter how many shares you subscribe to. As a member, you will be invited to the Annual General Meeting and can help decide with your vote.

Co-determination, participation and shopping go hand in hand at MILA. In order to be able to shop as a member of the cooperative, the joint participation shifts are a prerequisite. As soon as the large MILA participatory supermarket opens – we are planning for later in 2025 – every member will spend three hours a month in the supermarket.

These three hours will make a huge difference. With this model, together we will be able to offer high-quality products at affordable prices for everyone.

PS: In the minimarket, cooperation is not yet necessary for everyone 😉

How can I support MILA if I don't live in Vienna or don't want to work here?
