Welcome to MILA!

Good food. Good prices.
Sustainable community.

MILA briefly explained

We are a cooperative with over 1,000 members and run a supermarket in Vienna’s 12th district. On over 350 square meters we offer over 2,500 products for everyday needs.

MILA does business differently from big corporations.

Our philosophy: high-quality, largely organic, regional and unpackaged foods as well as affordable conventional and international products at good prices for all. Fair to the environment, animals and nature.

The secret of our good prices? All members work three hours per month – this reduces our overheads and makes quality affordable for all.

‘I am working for MILA to actively contribute to changing the Viennese food system and because I believe that good, healthy and affordable food should be available for all.’

David Jelinek

‘MILA – my idea of a place in Vienna where good & affordable food is available to ALL, where democratic decision-making and solidarity matter and where there’s a shared effort for a sustainable food system.’

Margherita Hameter

‘I am committed to establishing MILA, because I love good food and variety and I found a lack in both in conventional supermarkets. For me, MILA stands for enjoyment, variety and a shared sustainable way of doing business.’

Organic dairy products by Milchkandl

Directly from the Waldviertel region into the MILA supermarket shelf: whole milk and delicious fruit yogurts in reusable glass jars. Milchkandl only processes raw milk from the municipality of Weinzierl. No homogenization or ultra-high-temperature (UHT) processing; the valuable ingredients are preserved as naturally as possible.

City Farm: Vielfalt Mader

We love their organic vegetable variety. Throughout the year, they offerclose to 100 different vegetable varieties. The farm across from the Donau-Auen National Park converted to organic farming in 1996. Since then, a considerable variety of organic vegetables is cultivated on an area of two hectares.

NoCap - C.E.I.R. Cooperativa A R.L.

MILA offers peeled tomatoes in a can, passata in glass bottles, a variety of tomato sauces in jars. Each tomato glass is a symbol of labor ethics and ecological sustainability. NoCap is an Italian initiative that works to counter the Mafia-like exploitation of mostly African harvesters. The organic tomatoes and products of this cooperative make an important contribution towards ending labor exploitation and stand for solidary and humane farm labor.
